MySpace is an example of a social networking site. In fact, people may argue that it is one of the larger social networking sites out there. The way MySpace works is that you sign up for an account. Once you have your account in place, you can build your profile. In your profile you can list your interests, what you do for a living, what prompted you to sign up for MySpace, what you hope to get out of it, etc. Basically, you can put whatever you want on your MySpace account. You can even use HTML to create a more elaborate profile.

Once you set up your profile, you can begin to find people on MySpace who interest you. Most people start by adding their friends and family. Depending on how many friends you have or how much of your family actually has a MySpace account, this could have you adding a lot of friends. Once you’ve exhausted your immediate circle, you can browse through other people’s profiles and see if anyone interests you. Even famous actors, actresses, musicians, and bands have MySpace profiles so you can even add your favorite celebrities if that’s what you want.

There are several reasons why someone would want a MySpace account. Some people do it to promote themselves. For example, if someone has a band, they may set up a MySpace account to get the word out about their band. You can also use it for business networking or to keep up with what is going on with your friends and family. There is also a blog as part of your MySpace account which is a great way to help people see what you’ve been up to.

MySpace does get some negative press. But if you have a clear, defined purpose as to why you want a MySpace account, it really is not difficult to prevent the negative from affecting you. Every now and then someone who looks as if all they want to do is send you Spam or do something else that makes you uncomfortable, you can simply ignore their friend requests and choose to ignore them in general. It is important to understand that there are a lot of positive things about MySpace despite the negative press.
