Does free to Air only work through a Computer?
There have been many misconceptions about the way free to air TV works. I have been getting a lot of questions from people asking if free to air will only work through a computer. You don’t need a computer at all to get free to air TV. All you need is your antenna dish, and your FTA receiver. These devices work together to get your free to air channels, so all you need is a display monitor. You can use any TV that you have, that has the appropriate video and audio inputs, or you can even use a computer monitor via DVI, VGA or HDMI if your receiver supports it.
There is however a piece of software that allows you to get over 3500 high definition TV channels from all around the world on your computer, with no need for an antenna or a receiver. All you need is an internet connection. That’s right you can stream internet right off your computer for free, forever with a piece of software called Satellite Direct TV. You can see banners all around this site that will show you more information about this product, or you could just go to the “WATCH TV ONLINE” link in the menu above.
I used to run free to air tv through my TV downstairs, but I have since stored away my equipment and just bought Satellite Direct, and have hooked it up to my BenQ HD Cinema Projector with my 220 inch screen, and I have a dedicated theatre PC which I use for all my movies, tv, dvd, bluray, music, internet, and now with an additional 3500 channels from my software, you can see why I never leave my theatre room!

Hi, I live in Mansfield, Texas (a suburb of DFW).
The setting up of this thing looks daunting. I had Dish as well as Directv. Does Free to Air have regular news channels like CNN? And if so, are there companies that hook these things up or is there a central place that tell how to DIY? Of course I have the DirectV antenna on the roof and Dish antenna inside the house.
Thanks.
You can hire professionals to set this up for you, any good electrician should know how to set this up. You should call up and ask about it first.
